Wallace’s is a family run 2nd generation retail Company
with five individual businesses situated in
Wellingtonbridge, Co. Wexford. It is headed up by Joseph
Wallace, alongside his brother, Willie and sister Chrissie
Harpur and wives Joan and Mary with Ian Jones as the
General Manager.
The Company was started by Joseph’s father and his three
brothers, Matthew, Paddy and Simon who bought the original
premises in Wellingtonbridge in 1945 from Simon O’Dwyer.
At this time there was only a pub and post office in the
village, owned and operated by John Curran and his sister
Nellie. (see Links section for details on the 25 other
businesses situated in the thriving village of
Wellingtonbridge).
Wallace Bros commenced business in the ‘Bridges’ in 1946
as a providers, stocking hardware as well as operating a
grocery, meat counter and drapery within the one building.
The company has now expanded into five separate
businesses. Situated just 15 minutes outside Wexford Town
and New Ross, Wallace’s Wellingtonbridge is the gateway to
South West Wexford.
We
offer local shopping with a High Street selection in a
friendly village atmosphere and no parking hassles. Whilst
most of our very local customer base are from South West
Wexford, since the opening of our state of the art 35,000
sq.ft hardware/diy/builders providers in May 2002, and the
relocation, refurbishment and expansion of our Department
Store in December ’02, we have broadened our customer base
to include shoppers from Wexford Town, New Ross and as far
away as Gorey, not to mention the numerous holiday makers
over the Summer period who visit the Sunny South East.
2003
has been a milestone year for Wallace’s where they have
scooped two major national retail awards:
-
The Octabuild National Builders Merchants of the Year
for 2003 (winning both the Wexford and Leinster Awards
on the way), plus
-
The Costcutter Express National Store of the Year Award.
Says Joe Wallace:
“The ethos of the businesses in Wellingtonbridge is to
provide the best mix of merchandise available at the best
value to our customers. We achieve this from being part of
national buying groups for economies of scale whilst
supporting local producers of meat and vegetables to offer
unequalled quality.
In addition, Wallace’s five businesses offer local
employment opportunities and we continually strive to
improve all aspects of our business including, but not
limited to, excellence in customer service levels.”
We offer local employment and continually strive to train
our personnel on improving customer service.
